What is a Wellness Coach?

The title “coach” is used loosely in the health and fitness industry, as well in other industries. Coaches are behavior change specialists, trained in coaching psychology.  A certified, professional coach is someone who is trained in scientific models and techniques that affect self-change. Certified Wellness Coaches use counseling methodologies like Motivational Interviewing.  We understand and utilize the stages of behavior change to help individuals and groups move forward.  A coach offers guidance and encouragement in order to help one do the work to make positive changes in their life. 

How do we differ from other wellness professionals?

Personal Training and Wellness Coaching are two very different skill sets.  Personal trainers will provide you with the tools and information that you need to exercise safely and effectively.  By taking the time to work with a coach, you give yourself the time to practice new behaviors and make choices that will ultimately lead you to your ideal level of wellness.  Certified coaches also differ from therapists who often seek to understand how the past affects the present.  Coaches focus on resolution, goal setting and how you will get from point A to point B.
